ACCESSIBLE DESIGN

A semi-detached house required a full renovation and an extension at ground floor level to make adaptations for a wheelchair user. The new bedroom and wet room needed to provide a design solution to ensure that the medical equipment required didn’t stand out. The specialist  bed had a bespoke natural timber headboard and footboard made to add some warmth to the design and also to make the bed itself look less clinical. The whole room was designed to incorporate the client’s love of ‘Doctor Who’

The rest of the ground floor was then reconfigured to create an open plan kitchen housing both dining and living space. The pastel colours used allowed  the room to retain as much light as possible. A feature wallpaper created a focal point to the dining area and its soft natural, green tones complemented both the pale green kitchen units and the soft pink living room walls, bringing the open plan space together.

Blue Doctor Who themed bedroom with a ceiling track hoist and hospital bed

Blue Doctor Who themed bedroom with a ceiling track hoist and hospital bed

Blue rectangular wall panelling with shaker style shelf. Pops of red, yellow and green accents colours in the chairs, side table and roman blind. The roman blind has a fun yellow spotty fabric similar to a Dalek. The extra tall door is styled to look like the Tardis door with a ceiling track hoist that lines up with the top of the door frame. The bedroom is wheelchair accessible with a hospital bed made with a bespoke wooden headboard and footboard.

A bathroom with blue, black and white tiles with a brass mirror and wall lights on either side.
